Database Design and Relational Theory Normal Forms and All That Jazz By C.J. Date

Last time on my blog, I posted about "C.J. Date's Database Design and Relational Theory: Normal Forms and All That Jazz Master Class" video.  Anyway, had a chance to reading "Database Design and Relational Theory Normal Forms and All That Jazz" book By C.J. Date. In this book, it talks about logical design, not physical database design. you'll see lots of design theory terms in literature and like presentations and ... such as projection-join normal form, the chase, join dependency, FD preservation and many other.
When you read this book. You will learn about Normal Forms, that's important for database design. Anyway, it's a little bit of explanation. So, you can learn from "C.J. Date's Database Design and Relational Theory: Normal Forms and All That Jazz Master Class" video. It'll help a lot.
This book will help you questions in your head, for example

  • Why is Heath’s Theorem so important?
  • What is The Principle of Orthogonal Design?
  • What makes some JDs reducible and others irreducible?
  • Why does dependency preservation matter?
  • Should data redundancy always be avoided? Can it be?

You can read sample.
For me, This book is useful for Database Design, Relation Theory. It has a lot of exercises, that helps you understand more. But I hope Author will explain more each theory.
I believe you can use this book for Database Class in the University and learning on your own. But I'm still recommend you use "C.J. Date's Database Design and Relational Theory: Normal Forms and All That Jazz Master Class" video also.
